New charging station

I moved a dresser into our mudroom to hold gloves, scarves and hats. These had been kept in baskets in our lockers but they were to high for the kids to reach.  It's just the start of winter and I'm already sick of getting the baskets down. I went out to the barn and picked a dresser I had been trying to sell.  I'll post pictures of it later.

We currently charge our phones on the kitchen counter in a store bought charging station I just don't like. I wanted to get the phones out of the kitchen and this dresser was the perfect way to do that.

I went back out to the barn and looked for something to hold all of the cords and the  power strip.  I tested out a lot of wood boxes but ended up picking this metal file folder. I have another one I'm going to make and sell.  Hint, hint...

All I did was used the drill to make holes and that was it! Of course my battery was dead so I had to wait for it to charge.  My station would probably look better if I had a bigger drill bit, but I love it anyway!

One more thing. ..

I stared at some store letters all weekend at Junk Jubilee JINGLES,  but didn't go check the price.  I figured they hadn't sold so they must be expensive.  I dreamt of writing coffee on the wall with them.  Not all the letters were there,  but enough.  Sunday morning a dealer is walking away with them. .. $10!! Dang it Brooke!  Should have checked the price. ..ALWAYS check the price!

More of my booth.  If you were interested in any of my big items they will be available at my next Barn Sale the first weekend of December.

Junk Jubilee JINGLES

This past weekend I setup at the Iowa State Fairgrounds for Junk Jubilee JINGLES.  In the past I have only been able to attend the spring event, but since I am now doing this full-time I could participate in the fall show.
I have written many posts about what I have learned from doing shows.  Somehow I "forgot" some of my own tips this time! The biggest tip I forgot was about the size of my items. I went way to big and I only sold one little chimney cabinet!  This was my third show in 2 weeks. ..I was SO tired from moving everything!  I was literally the last vendor to leave after the show! And luckily Miccia,  her brother, and former partner were there to help.  So, again don't take big heavy items. ..especially when you are by yourself and at a show were it is known people don't buy bigs.   (Won't happen again, I hope)
I continue to learn new things at the shows as well.  I had read this tip somewhere a long time ago, but this time I actually applied it! Face your checkout to the aisle, not back into your booth. You don't want to have a line of people waiting to pay standing in your booth because then others can't look!
Have a comfortable seat for yourself!  My sturdy stool was not so sturdy after I got on and off a million times. It was too high for my legs but too low for my checkout counter.
Talk to people.  They don't want to have a conversation with you,  but say hi, plug your shop and let them shop.

Southern Iowa Electric Co-op Christmas Expo

I was invited to have a booth at the Southern Iowa Electric Co-op Christmas Expo in Bloomfield,  Iowa.  I thought it would be a great way to advertise for my store and my upcoming Barn Sale.  In the past I have not made many sales at smaller venues like this so other than advertising my sights were set low. I already had my trailer full from a weekend show, so I just used the same stuff. (Not the best idea...lots of big pieces)
The building was setup nicely.  I had time to go around and see the other booths. There was a lot of variety. ..then the food truck rolled in!  Ugh, I can't remember their name but they are out of Pulaski.  Bbq, potatoes and noodles, cobbler...the smell was amazing.  I knew there was going to be a nice crowd! I even made a few sales before the doors opened.
Remember, the plan was advertising, so I tried to talk to everyone, but without being too aggressive!  I had a few sales,  but I had a lot of people say they would stop at the store or even come to my barn sale!
At the end of the show some nice young men ;) helped me load the trailer and the ladies who helped me ended up making some purchases too! Thanks ladies!
It was a great event. I plan on going next year and you should too!

What have I gotten myself into!  I left last Wednesday for a show in Springfield, Missouri(over 6 hours away! ).  I posted about the show earlier;  2 Friends & Junk.   I was a little disappointed with the show...not a lot of traffic, so not a lot of sales.  The plus was meeting a lot of great people and getting some great ideas!
Last night I drove to a nearby town,  Bloomfield.  They were having their annual Holiday Expo hosted by Southern Iowa Electric Co-op.  It was a wonderful event and I plan on doing it again next year. It was very funny because most of my sales were before and after the actual event! The best part was free advertising!
That brings us to today...I just made and devoured a whole batch of muffins!  Nervous eating. ..why? Because I have another show this weekend!
So, recap...left home Wednesday afternoon for Springfield.  Came halfway home and watched my sons football team in Columbia all day. Monday I spent all day in Bloomfield.  Tuesday I unloaded the trailer only to turn around and start loading it again.  Plus I cooked like 20 pounds of chicken so I would have food to  take with me. Tomorrow I will finish loading. Thursday I will unload and setup my booth. And Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I will sell, sell, sell(hopefully).  Did I mention it is in the teens today? Brrr...
What was I thinking!

Mark Chelgren shopped my booth!

Final Barn Sale of 2014

Make plans to attend. ..

2 Friends and Junk

I'm downfind men Springfield, Missouri at the 2 Friends and Junk event.  I drove over 6 hours to get here! I've heard so much about this show and the girls have done tons of advertising. ..Facebook,  billboards,  radio and t.v. commercials!  I will be honest when I say Fridays turn out was smaller than I'm used to,  but I'm excited to see what tomorrow brings!

Come find me...
